Diamonds are a girl's best friend is how the saying goes, but if you don't take good care of your diamond, your best friend isn't going to shine like it once did. Diamonds are very hard, precious stones that can be costly, so it's good to care for them to help protect your investment. Read on for tips to care for your diamonds in your jewelry.

Take Off Your Jewelry

Over-wearing your diamond jewelry is going to set it up for damage. Wearing your jewelry at work if you work in an industrial environment is going to capture dust and dirt particles inside and make your jewelry dirty and dingy. Remove jewelry when working anywhere that is a dirty environment. Remove jewelry before bedtime and also before working with your hands with anything that could potentially damage your diamond and jewelry (or injure you). Keep your diamond jewelry in a safe place such as a jewelry box.

Clean Your Jewelry Often

To remove daily grime from your diamond jewelry, remove it often and clean it in a jewelry cleaner. Only use a jewelry cleaner that your jeweler suggests. Homemade jewelry cleaner may cause damage to your jewelry if you aren't sure what you're doing. You can also take your jewelry to your jeweler to have it thoroughly cleaned by a professional. They have the tools and know-how to clean your jewelry to make it shine.

Have Your Diamond Checked

Take your diamond jewelry into the jeweler to have it checked and inspected often. Your jewelry will take a look at the settings to be sure they are in good shape and are holding your diamond in place properly. If your setting is not in good shape, you could potentially lose your diamond. The jeweler can make the necessary repairs to your setting to ensure your diamond stays in place. This may require you to leave your piece of jewelry at the jeweler until it is repaired. This is something you should do at least once per year. If this is something you wear often, it may begin to show wear.  Taking it to be inspected is very important and some jewelers require this to help protect your diamond investment.

If you have diamond jewelry, be sure to take good care of it. Diamonds are solid and hard, but they can still scratch and become damaged over time, or lost if the setting is not in good shape. Take your diamond to the jeweler to be inspected and cleaned often.
